Bilt
New York, United States
Bilt is a New York based housing and neighborhood commerce platform that lets renters, and now homeowners, earn loyalty points on rent and mortgage payments and spend them with a network of local merchants, travel partners and property managers. Ankur Jain founded the company in 2019 and launched the rewards program in 2021; it runs its loyalty network through partnerships with large multifamily managers including Greystar, AvalonBay and Brookfield and says it covers about 1 in 4 U.S. apartment buildings. It raised $150 million at a $1.5 billion valuation led by Left Lane Capital in 2022, $200 million at $3.1 billion led by General Catalyst in January 2024 (when former American Express CEO Ken Chenault became chairman), $150 million led by Ontario Teachers' Teachers' Venture Growth in August 2024, and $250 million at a $10.75 billion valuation led by General Catalyst and GID in July 2025, with United Wholesale Mortgage committing $100 million. Bilt reports more than 5 million members, more than $100 billion in annual housing payments processed and roughly $200 million of 2024 revenue, with about $1 billion expected in 2026. Its February 2026 switch from the Wells Fargo card to the three-tier Bilt Card 2.0 issued with Cardless drew heavy member backlash over reward changes, failed or delayed rent and mortgage payments and thin customer support, a spike in CFPB complaints, and a review of consumer complaints by the Florida Attorney General's office; Jain apologized and added a second point-earning option.
