Extra Space Storage Inc. is a self administered and self managed real estate investment trust headquartered in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and is the largest self storage operator in the United States by store count following its 2023 all stock merger with Life Storage. Founded in 1977, the company owns, operates, manages, or holds ownership interests in thousands of self storage stores across the country. Joe Margolis has served as CEO since 2017 and is set to retire at the end of 2026, at which point current President Noah Springer, a company veteran since 2006, will become CEO effective January 1, 2027.
