Quinta Monroy Housing

Quinta Monroy Housing is a pioneering social housing project in Iquique, Tarapacá, Chile, designed by Elemental and led by Alejandro Aravena. The project replaced an informal settlement with 93 expandable housing units on a 5,000 sqm site, allowing residents to remain in the city center and avoid displacement. Each unit was delivered as a 'half-house' with essential infrastructure, enabling families to incrementally expand their homes according to their needs and resources. The project is widely recognized for its innovative approach to affordable housing, community integration, and long-term adaptability, and is currently fully completed and occupied.
