The Tesla Fremont Factory Retrofitting & Expansion project is a major industrial redevelopment aimed at nearly doubling the manufacturing footprint of Tesla’s flagship California facility. The project encompasses the addition of approximately 4.6 million square feet across 11 new buildings, advanced battery cell production lines, and state-of-the-art automation upgrades. This expansion is critical for supporting increased production of Tesla’s Model 3, Model Y, and the ramp-up of 4680 battery cell manufacturing, reinforcing Fremont’s role as a core hub in Tesla’s global supply chain. As of late 2025, the project is under construction, with phased delivery of new facilities and ongoing hiring to support expanded operations.
