The Atrium at Sumner

The Atrium at Sumner is an 11-story affordable senior housing development located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, designed by Studio Libeskind as part of NYCHA’s NextGeneration initiative. The project delivers 190 deeply affordable apartments for adults aged 62 and older, with significant set-asides for formerly homeless seniors and those with mobility, visual, or hearing impairments. Key features include a dramatic geometric façade, a central glass-ceiling atrium, and a ground-level community facility offering wellness and social services. Completed in April 2024, the building is now leasing and serves as a model for sustainable, high-impact urban design.
