The Atrium at Sumner Houses

The Atrium at Sumner Houses is an 11-story, 190-unit affordable senior housing development located within the NYCHA Sumner Houses campus in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Designed by Studio Libeskind and completed in April 2024, the project features a dramatic glass-ceiling atrium, energy-efficient Passive House construction, and extensive wellness and social services for residents. The building provides deeply affordable homes for adults aged 62 and older, including set-asides for formerly homeless seniors and those with disabilities. As a flagship of NYCHA's NextGeneration initiative, it sets a new standard for sustainable, community-oriented public housing.
