W Charlotte at 400 South Tryon
Charlotte, NC
W Charlotte is the 200-key hotel anchor of Spandrel Development Partners' conversion of 400 South Tryon, a foreclosed 1970s office tower (formerly known as the Wachovia Center) in Uptown Charlotte, developed in partnership with 7G Group. The hotel will occupy floors one through nine with 173 guest rooms and 27 suites including a signature penthouse, plus 12,000 square feet of meeting space, a ballroom, a ground-floor restaurant and coffee bar and the brand's Living Room, and an 18,000-square-foot rooftop bar on the 34th floor billed as Charlotte's highest. The rest of the tower becomes 399 unbranded apartments with an indoor pool, spa, fitness center, theater room and golf simulator, and the existing 517-space garage is being updated. Rockwell Group is the design architect, replacing the original curtain wall with a panelized glass facade and adding an arched porte-cochere off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, with LS3P as architect of record and CetraRuddy as conceptual design architect.
