Dahlstrom House by John Lautner

Pasadena, California, United States

The Dahlstrom House is the only house in Pasadena designed by John Lautner, built in 1949 on a triangular 10,441 sq ft lot in the San Rafael area. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and about 1,897 sq ft, with walls of glass, a wood-paneled foyer, a curved sliding wall that joins the bedroom to the living room, and a cylindrical concrete fireplace. A teak-paneled office has cylindrical built-in bookshelves and a revolving bookcase that hides the steel structure, and the semicircular primary suite has clerestory windows. The Japanese-inspired garden is anchored by a mature stone pine. The house contributes to the Laguna Road Landmark District and is considered eligible for the National Register.
