The Rook Hotel (former John Randolph Hotel)

South Boston, VA, United States

A hotel in downtown South Boston, Virginia originally opened in the early 1900s as the John Randolph Hotel, closed since the 1990s. Julian and Karie Brittano's Brittano Group, through its Rook Hotels subsidiary, broke ground on January 14, 2026 to redevelop it into a 30-room boutique hotel with a rooftop lounge bar and restaurant, in partnership with the Town of South Boston and National Hospitality Services. The project is expected to create about 100 construction jobs and 60 permanent positions, with an early-2027 opening planned.
